Our little ones need special attention and care when they are sick. Here are some simple things you can do at home to make your child as comfortable as possible while treating a cold.
Keep close
Sometimes the best cold medicine is a good cuddle. Sick children can sometimes feel worried or scared, and will want nothing more than to sleep in your arms. Remember, they won’t be this
little for long!
Prioritize rest
Sleep is very important to recovery, especially for children. Ease symptoms of a kid’s cough and congestion with a cool mist humidifier while they sleep.
Give fluids
Congestion and stuffy little noses can cause a child to breathe through their mouths more, which can lead to dehydration. Keep them hydrated with fruit juices, warm herbal teas, and water.
Clear Stuffy Noses
The question of how to clear a stuffy nose can be tricky with sick little ones. Have your child blow their nose often, using soft tissues to prevent chapping. You can also sit in the bathroom with
your child while a hot shower runs, allowing the steam to loosen mucus. For younger children, consult with your pediatrician.
Draw a bath
Prepare a warm, relaxing bath for your child to help relieve minor aches and fevers while treating a cold. Two to three baths a day can be fun and relaxing distraction. If your child begins to shiver,
immediately remove them from the bath.
Consult your pediatrician
If you have any questions on how to treat your child’s cold and cough, we always recommend you contact your pediatrician.
